Frosting is just a general cream cheese frosting recipe that my family uses, for everything.
Preheat your oven to 350 and grease 2 cake pans.
Stir together 1 cup water and 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder. Combine 2 cups sugar, 2/3 cup vegetable oil, 1 cup buttermilk, add espresso water, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 2 eggs. Whisk it all together really good.
Add 2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1 teaspoon salt, oh and 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. Stir just until combined…do not over mix. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, check with cake poker or toothpick.
8 oz package of cream cheese at room temperature and 1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature. Cream them together for about 3 minutes. Sift together 3 cups of powdered sugar, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix those into the creamed mixture for another 3 minutes. Add a teaspoon of vanilla and mix on low for a few more minutes and frost that cake.
